While our administrative office is in Byron Bay, most of our teaching occurs at field sites across Australia.
If you'd like to visit a program in progress or tour one of our partner nature reserves, contact us to arrange a visit. We occasionally offer open days where prospective students can observe classes and meet instructors.
Field site locations vary by program and season. We'll provide detailed logistics and travel information once you enroll.
All programs include field instruction, accommodation during field sessions, use of equipment, course materials, and ongoing mentorship. You'll need to arrange your own transport to field sites and provide personal clothing and camping gear.
No previous ecology training is required. Our programs accommodate complete beginners through to professionals seeking specialized skills. We assess your background during enrollment and may recommend specific preparatory reading.
We run multiple cohorts throughout the year, timed to align with optimal ecological conditions for each program focus. Marine programs typically run summer through autumn, while forest programs favor spring and winter seasons.
Yes, we welcome international students. You'll need to arrange appropriate visas for study and fieldwork in Australia. Contact us for documentation to support your visa application.
Field accommodation is included and varies by site—research stations, bush camping, and coastal facilities. Between field sessions, you'll need independent accommodation. We can recommend options near our Byron Bay office.
Programs involve walking on uneven terrain, carrying equipment, and working outdoors in various weather. You don't need to be an athlete, but reasonable fitness helps you engage fully. Contact us to discuss specific program demands.
We collaborate with land management agencies, conservation organizations, and research institutions. If you're interested in hosting programs or developing custom training for your organization, we'd like to hear from you.
